Scripture reveals three clear priorities in the Great Commandment and the Great Commission. In fact, Jesus said that all the Law and the Prophets depended on the two commandments He shared in Matthew 22:37-38 when He said, "You shall love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your mind. This is the great and first commandment. And a second is like it: you shall love your neighbor as yourself." We summarized that with "Worship & Nurture".
The Great Commission in Matthew 28:19-20 also weighed in when Jesus said, "Go therefore and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, teaching them to observe all that I have commanded you. And behold, I am with you always, to the end of the age." There is a lot in those verses, but we summarized it with "Mission".
Putting the two summaries together, it simply became "Worship, Nurture, and Mission".
A life of worship is more than a song and a creed. It is a life that is all in, with "all your heart and with all your soul and will all your mind." Everyone worships something, but we want to be about worshiping God. Worshiping God involves knowing Him, trusting Him, and honoring Him in every area of our lives. The beautiful thing here is that God is the one who enables us to love Him in the first place. 1 John 4:19 says "We love because He first loved us." Because God demonstrated great love for us through Jesus dying on the cross for our sin, we are now able to appropriately respond in love, and worship, to Him. Click to find out how we collectively join together in our expression of worship in our services, regarding music, and regarding preaching, which serve to spur us on to lives of worship throughout the week.
God has placed us in community with each other, that we might grow as we love one another and reflect His great love for us. 1 John 4:7-8 says "Beloved, let us love one another, for love is from God, and whoever loves has been born of God and knows God. Anyone who does not love does not know God, because God is love." So we reflect that love by living out all the "one another" commands in Scripture, and by doing so, move each other toward a maturing of our faith in Christ.
