On Mission To The World & Reaching the World For Christ
Go therefore and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, teaching them to observe all that I have commanded you. And behold, I am with you always, to the end of the age.” (Mathhew 28:19-20 ESV)
Colossians 3:16 – “Therefore, we are ambassadors for Christ, God making His appeal through us…”
Mission Statement
Radford Baptist Church is more than a church that has a heart for missions but it is a church on mission. Therefore, we have committed to passionately display the life of Jesus Christ by taking Christ to the culture in which we live.
As a result, the leadership team is encouraging you to pray for God to show you specific ways you can reach your community, your neighbors, your friends, your co-workers and those within your sphere of influence with the transforming message of Jesus Christ.
How Can We Be On Mission?
Build relationships because in building relationships with others they will be more open to hear the message of Christ’s love. Spend time getting to know others so that trust will grow and God will open the door to share His love in tangible ways.
Love exceptionally because in evangelism our actions speak as loud as our words. Maybe you have become aware of some hardship or a project your neighbor or co-worker is facing. Is there some way that you and your family may help in these things? Jesus knew how our actions speak as loud as our message, so he teaches us to “let our light shine before other men in such a way that they may see your good works and glorify your Father who is in heaven.”
Proclaim courageously – As this kind of evangelism is different from direct proclamation evangelism, you may not share the gospel the first time you meet someone. Be sensitive to the Spirit’s work and when He opens the door don’t wait too long before you lead the conversation to spiritual things and to the good news about Jesus Christ.
A Few Suggestions to be on Mission
A Barbecue at Your Home: Invite your neighbors or co-workers to join you and your family for a barbeque at your home. The goal is to build relationships and to pray for an opportunity to share your testimony or the hope you have in Christ.
Provide a service to your neighbor: Look for intentional ways to bless your neighbors or those in your sphere of influence. Cut the neighbor’s grass, repair a broken window, baby sit for parents with children, pet sit or take a meal to someone returning home from the hospital after surgery. Pray, be watchful and God will give you opportunities to share His love to those around you in very practical ways.
Bake cookies and goodies to deliver to those in your neighborhood: Bake cookies or put together a fruit basket and deliver them to your neighbors. The way to a man’s heart (and a neighbor’s heart) is through food.
Put together play groups for children and moms: As summer is upon us invite the neighborhood children and their moms to meet at your house for a play day. Serve snacks and drinks. Have games for the children. The moms will love it and it will provide an opportunity to build relationships.
Have a free neighborhood carwash or lemonade stand: This is easy and will not cost you very much. If anyone wants to donate any money you can give the funds to the Agape Center or other mission groups.
Create your own ideas: Pray and look for creative ways to reach your community or sphere of influence. This might mean you join with other Christians or with your home group or Sunday school class. Whatever you decide, just do it!!!!!
